WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK.
All my life I have been searching for the reason why I was born. I could not believe that I was on this earth by accident. I felt that there must have been a purpose to my coming here. During my life I have attended many different Christian Churches but their teachings of a blind belief in certain creeds and the following of certain rituals in no way gave to my life the meaning or purpose for which I sought. Only Spiritualism fully satisfies my search for God and His meaning for my life on this earth.
There are three reasons why I wrote this book. One was to try and dispel some of the strange ideas I have encountered about Spiritualism. Many people do not realise that Spiritualists worship God just as in other churches. I will never forget my astonishment when someone asked me if I had never considered becoming a Christian! I considered myself to be not only a follower of Christ's teachings but an even better Christian than many churchgoers with whom I was acquainted. Another reason was to show that Spiritualists try to live their lives according to the Laws of God and the teachings of Christ although we do not agree with the articles of faith, ceremonies and rituals practised by so many churches. The final reason was to explain how Spiritualism, by proving that there is no such thing as death and that life goes on in another world, shows the purpose of our life on this earth and gives meaning to our worldly existence.
Many would agree that the world today is in a sad state. There are wars, acts of terrorism, murders committed by sexual perverts and psychopaths, theft, vandalism — the list is endless. People wonder why a God of Love does not step in and sort it all out. They have lost their faith and don't know what their path in life is meant to be. I write this book in the hope that I can give them back their faith in God and to show them that their life does have a purpose in God's plan for the human race.
This is a very personal statement of my beliefs. I have not covered every aspect of Spiritualism because there are other books which more than cover these topics (eg Healing). This book is intended to be a very simple introduction to the Spiritualist faith and why I believe in it as opposed to the teachings of the established Christian Churches. I hope that readers of this book will be interested enough to follow on and explore Spiritualism for themselves.
